Eleusis 2023: breathtaking opening ceremony

Eleusis is officially recognized as the European Capital of Culture for 2023.

The second stage of the opening ceremony, even more spectacular than the first, was presented by the “Mysteries of the Passage” (“Μυστήρια Μετάβασης”), a breathtaking spectacle held on the city’s waterfront.

“Μυστήρια Μετάβασης” is, in fact, a look at the great past of this ancient city. The focus of the program and activities is on the coastal part of Eleusis, where three processions arrived, with the historic Olive Mill as their final destination.

With Rena Morphy as the leader of the ceremony, the choir under the artistic direction of Marina Satti and the musical accompaniment of the Athens State Orchestra – KOA, sea and land became the central stage of the action, on which the solemn Opening Ceremony took place.
