As part of the ODISOS program “Open Democracy in a Society of Solidarity”, “Doctors of the World” will organize a photo exhibition and thematic discussions in the Seraphion of the Municipality of Athens from 14 to 16 February.
The photo exhibition titled “Leaving / Leaving Behind” aims to inform the public about the refugee crisis from Ukraine. Having completed 10 months of humanitarian action in Ukraine, “Doctors of the World – Greece” present photographic materials and stories about their recent work. In fact, this is a series-report of 32 photographs. The event is supported by the US Embassy in Greece and the Alumni Engagement Innovation Fund.
According to the outstanding photographer Yannis Giannakopoulos, the photographs are of a pronounced narrative nature and capture everything that was seen, strongly experienced and witnessed by the “Doctors of the World-Greece” (Γιατροί του Κόσμου-Ελλάδας).
Through the Leaving / Leaving Behind exhibition, Physicians of the World-Greece seeks to share common truths and common initiatives with the public. “Γιατροί του Κόσμου-Ελλάδας” have so far collected more than 100 tons of essential items (mainly medicines and medical supplies) and have already carried out 25 humanitarian missions to Ukraine. To date, it is estimated that more than 17,000 people have directly benefited from the activities of the World Doctors for Ukraine, and the number of indirect beneficiaries is estimated at 550,000 people.
The goal of Doctors of the World is to further raise public awareness of the harsh reality faced by millions of people around the world, as well as an initiative for an optimistic and hopeful tomorrow.
