“Sensation” from A. Tsipras: “I am withdrawing SYRIZA from the Parliament”. Will there be elections?

A real political “bomb” was “thrown” in Parliament today by the head of SYRIZA-PS, Alexis Tsipras, in an interview in Zappio, announcing the withdrawal of the main opposition party SYRIZA PS from Parliament, demanding its dissolution, trying to force K. Mitsotakis to proceed with the immediate announcement of elections.

“This government is morally and politically corrupt. We demand the immediate dissolution of the parliament and appeal to the people’s court. We ask the Greek people to answer the question: democracy or sabotage. From now on, we will abstain from any vote in Parliament, with the exception of the Golden Dawn bill (HA).

In practice, the government will not necessarily go to the polls, because they don’t resign in order to go for a consecutive oath of their deputies until the deputies “run out” and necessarily, due to the lack of a “house” quorum, elections must be called immediately. But the withdrawal of the opposition from parliament delegitimizes the government and, from a political point of view, calling for elections is a one-way street. The important fact is that this is the first time this has happened since 1974, and the “sound” of the withdrawal of the opposition is already being heard around the world. The political initiative seems to have passed to Syriza.

“The strong have become stronger in our country in recent years,” Alexis Tsipras said at the beginning of a press conference in Zappio, stressing that corruption scandals involving New Democracy and government officials are shaping the political life of the country.

“The erosion of the institutions of democracy and social cohesion has gone very deep. There is a great redistribution of wealth in favor of the powerful of this world. Obscenity is defended in a defiant way,” A. Tsipras emphasized.

Tsipras spoke about wiretapping, “zophos” and “Mitsotakis regime”

“The interceptions were carried out under the supervision and direction of the Prime Minister,” Alexis Tsipras said. “Weapon security has become part of this game.”

“The interception network was not a failure. It was a complex plan that was supposed to complement the data theft networks. They insulted the rule of law. This is the Mitsotakis regime. Mitsotakis is abusing democratic power,” said Alexis Tsipras.

“This state of decay cannot be put up with. We declare, as the official opposition, that we will not legitimize this deviation, even if 156 deputies make such a decision. For us, the government is a moral and political bankrupt. We cannot allow it to remain even for a moment. We We demand the immediate dissolution of Parliament and the holding of elections in three weeks,” Tsipras said.

“We are passing the impeachment proposal to the people. As long as Mitsotakis refuses to do so, SYRIZA will not legislate the legislative activity of the government of sabotage,” Tsipras said, explaining that SYRIZA will abstain from voting in the House of Representatives. “From now on, except for our participation in countering the attempt to return to the center attention to the criminal gang of neo-Nazis, we will abstain from any vote in Parliament.”

“We call on all political parties and trade unions to create a barrier to protect democracy. Democracy is alive as long as it is in the defense of every citizen,” said Alexis Tsipras.

Then the leader of the opposition answered the journalists’ questions.

The President of SYRIZA PS explained what his party would do in Parliament from now on: “We dealt with the scandal institutionally. The first scandal concerns the functioning of the institutions of power. We looked for answers everywhere. received no response from the prime minister of the country. That is why we have decided to refrain from acting in parliament.”

“This issue should be internationalized.”

Then the President of SYRIZA noted that his party would do everything possible to give this issue an international character: “We are responsible both within the country and abroad, European public opinion. We have not just a violation of the constitutional framework, but a violation of European law. I has already appealed to European institutions. Obviously, we will argue that this issue will be internationalized throughout Europe. The decision of the Greek people is decisive. We have already explained why. A democratic government must restore the rule of law,” Alexis Tsipras said.

The withdrawal of the official opposition (SYRIZA PS) from parliament, for the first time since 1974, is unprecedented in the annals of the post-revolutionary period and certainly marks the beginning of the electoral campaign, whether Mitsotakis and his government are forced to dissolve parliament or insist on a “hollow parliament” “.

The government’s response was awkward, and Tsipras’ announcement certainly took him by surprise – this is the second time it has been taken by surprise since A. Tsipras filed his impeachment proposal.

It is more likely that parliament will choose to work with only 75% of the seats, but this removes the element of political sensation and the more significant element that SYRIZA PS took the political initiative: instead of waiting for elections to be called and following Mitsotakis’ “release” and “oracles” about the timing of the elections (which is very specific), it was he who first began the election campaign.
