“The U.S. Embassy in Athens is partnering with the American College of Greece through the Education Connects 2023 program to offer fully funded scholarships to at-risk, financially needy refugee, migrant, and displaced students to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Deree.

With a $100,000 grant from the US Embassy in Athens and a matching financial contribution from the American College of Greece, more than 40 refugee, migrant, and displaced students, including 20 Ukrainians, are starting their undergraduate and graduate studies this month. Scholarships are available to students for the spring and fall semesters of 2023, as well as for the summer semester.

ACG has been cooperating with the US Embassy for the sixth year in the framework of the “Education unites” program. In 2018, the US Embassy provided funding for the creation of the Education Connects: Camp to Campus program supporting scholarships for 200 refugee students in Athens and Thessaloniki. As part of the Education Connects program, ACG accepted 100 refugee students in 2018-2019 and has continued to independently provide scholarships to 20 or more refugee students from different countries annually since then. In 2022, in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, ACG established the Ukrainian Student Program, providing scholarship support to 20 more refugee students from Ukraine. Additional US Embassy funding expands the program and provides life-changing opportunities for more young refugees from Ukraine and beyond.”
