Members of a gang that ‘bombed’ shops in Attica arrested

The security department of the police of the Marousi district of Athens neutralized the gang, whose members systematically committed burglaries of shops in various parts of Attica. There are more than 30 of them on the account of criminals.

Two young men, aged 19 and 17, were detained by the police of the Amarusiu security department, while the identities of two other members of the gang, aged 17 and 19, were identified, with a 19-year-old youth being held in a pre-trial detention center.

A criminal case was initiated against them, on an individual basis, for forming a gang, theft, robbery, violation of the law on narcotic substances. In the context of the investigation of cases of shoplifting with a specific method of action, since October 2021 in the wider area of Attica, after a thorough investigation, the above service has taken methodical and continuous actions to find the criminal group.

With regard to the actions of the gang, it is known that the criminals broke into shops and supermarkets, seizing safes, cash and electronic devices from them. They preferred to operate early in the morning when the shops were closed and the conditions were right so as not to be seen by passers-by.

Ways to break into shops were either using tools or breaking shop windows with metal manhole covers and breaking doors. Then, having gained access inside, the attackers quickly took out money and valuables. In some cases, they drove up to the target shops in a car that they had previously stolen, and after the theft was completed, they hid on them and then abandoned them in areas of Western Attica.

A characteristic feature of the gang’s criminal activity is successive thefts over a short period of time of one day. In addition, members of the gang boasted of their prey in posts on social networks (apparently, this is how law enforcement officers came to them. Editor’s note).

According to the results of the preliminary investigation of the above service, 30 burglaries from shops, 8 vehicle thefts and robberies involving minors were identified. Gang members have been repeatedly arrested and charged with similar crimes. The arrested were taken to the District Attorney of Athens.

PS The police do not name the names and nationalities of the gang members, but, by indirect evidence, it can be understood that we are talking about gypsies living in Ano Liosia and Menidi, about whom we wrote previously.
