Hot pursuit solves murder of 47-year-old "American" in Kalamata

Greek police ΕΛ.ΑΣ. announced the successful investigation and disclosure of the murder in Kalamata.

According to local media, at about 11 am, two unidentified men driving a car blocked the way for a man who was riding a motorcycle. They then got out of the car and beat him violently in the middle of the road for several minutes. Shortly before they got into the car and disappeared, one of the two shot him in the leg. The victim died from massive blood loss.

The crime was committed by a Greek and a foreigner – the first was detained, the second was wanted, says in the message of ΕΛ.ΑΣ.:

“Thanks to the professional actions of the police officers of the Kalamata Security Sub-Directorate and the Narcotics Department of the Kalamata Security Sub-Directorate, the murder of a 47-year-old citizen, which occurred in the morning hours of 20.1.2023 in Kalamata (Messinia), was solved. The perpetrators are a 22-year-old Greek citizen detained and a wanted 38-year-old foreigner who are facing criminal charges for murder and the foreigner is also accused of violating weapons laws.The police are already taking steps to apprehend a second perpetrator, an Albanian.

As shown by a thorough police investigation, on 01/20/2023 in the morning in Kalamata, the criminals were waiting for the victim. An argument arose between them and a severe beating followed, after which a foreign citizen who is now on the wanted list shot the victim in the leg. They then got into the car and fled. As part of an organized operation carried out by the police, one of the perpetrators was found at noon in Kalamata and arrested. Also arrested are two residents aged 40 and 50, who are being prosecuted for perjury and harboring a criminal.”

It is noteworthy that the murder took place at 10:30 am on Friday, a few meters from the city court building, at the intersection of Hydra and Solonos streets. According to tarrosnews.gr, the victim, whom acquaintances called “American”, was known to the authorities in a drug case, and was also convicted of drug trafficking in the United States and released on parole.
