Eve Kylie "tortured" in a Belgian prison, says her Greek lawyer

Eva Kaili was subjected to “torture reminiscent of the Middle Ages,” her Greek lawyer said on Thursday afternoon after a hearing before a judicial council in Brussels that decided whether she would remain in pre-trial detention or be temporarily released with an electronic ankle bracelet.

“Mrs. Kylie remained for 6 hours in solitary confinement, the conditions of her detention were terrible, – declared reporters her lawyer Michalis Dimitrakopoulos. “She was deprived of her jacket and she was cold, she was not given a warm blanket, and the lights are on 16 hours a day, so she cannot sleep. In addition, she said that she was not allowed to wash, despite the fact that she was unwell and lost a lot of blood, – reported the Italian newspaper La Stampa referring to Kylie’s lawyer. “She also complained that she could not see her 22-month-old daughter, she was only allowed to see her once a month.”

Lawyer Dimitrakopoulos spoke of “human rights violations” and “torture reminiscent of the Middle Ages.” He added that she was prevented from talking to lawyers for many hours, saying that “this does not happen even under a dictatorship.”

Kylie’s testimony in court lasted about 1.5 hours. The judge’s decision is expected later on Thursday. Eva Kaili, former Vice President of the European Parliament, has been in detention for about 40 days. A few weeks ago, she asked for temporary release under house arrest, subject to wearing an electronic ankle bracelet.

Recall that Eve Kylie serious charges related to corruption, money laundering and participation in a criminal organization. The alleged leader of the corrupt gang, Antonio Pancheri, has reportedly made a deal with the Belgian authorities and is ready to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Brussels prosecutor’s office.

According to some Greek media outlets, the Pancheri deal will not get Kylie out of house arrest pending trial.
