Diplomatic mission of the EU and the US in Belgrade and Pristina to resolve the Kosovo issue

The process of solving the Kosovo problem is gaining new momentum. On Friday, January 20, a new round of negotiations begins in Belgrade and Pristina within the framework of the dialogue, which takes place under the auspices of the European Union.

Meanwhile, according to available information, several key mediators will arrive tomorrow for negotiations with the delegations of Belgrade and Pristina: US Special Envoy to the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar, Special Envoy EU Miroslav Lajcak, German Jens Plötner and Frenchman Emanuel Bonn, adviser to Italian Prime Minister Francesco Talo and another influential figure from Western diplomatic circles, who are promoting the so-called “Franco-German” proposal.

For about two months now, the so-called Franco-German proposal has been on the negotiating table, which, according to unofficial information and leaked leaks, provides for the normalization of Serbian-Kosovo relations without mutual recognition. The talks will, of course, focus on the need to conclude a “comprehensive” agreement on the “normalization” of relations, which must necessarily include “mutual” recognition.

It is reported that Brussels adopted amendments to the annual report, which condemned “Belgrade’s steps to escalate” the situation in the province and called on EU countries that do not recognize the self-proclaimed Republic of Kosovo to do so as soon as possible. And the German special representative for the Western Balkans, Manuel Sarrazin, openly declaredthat Serbia will not become a member of the EU if it does not recognize Kosovo.

As we reported earlier, Aleksandar Vucic, President of Serbia, declared on the inadmissibility of recruiting Serbs to participate in hostilities in Ukraine in the ranks of the Wagner PMC and called for an end to such actions. As informs Reuters, the head of Serbia criticized groups on social networks and Russian websites for publishing ads in Serbian calling for volunteers to join the Wagner group: “Why are you from Wagner calling someone from Serbia when you know it’s against our rules?”

Serbian legislation prohibits the participation of its citizens in conflicts abroad, there have already been precedents with the conviction of several people under this article. Volunteers from Serbia participated in the fighting in Ukraine in 2014 and 2015, on the side of the pro-Russian forces. Exact figures on the number of Serb fighters there are unknown, but observers have been talking about dozens of mercenaries since 2014.
