The title of the country with the largest population in the world has probably passed from China to India – last December it could have become the state with the largest population on the planet.
About it informs Bloomberg, citing China’s official statistics and estimates from the independent organization World Population Review. For the first time in sixty years, the population of China has decreased, the authorities of the Celestial Empire confirm, while in India, meanwhile, the birth rate is increasing. These two countries are the only ones in the world with a population of more than a billion people.
India’s population surpassed 1.417 billion in 2022, 5 million more than China’s. As of January 18, according to the World Population Review, India’s population has reached 1.423 billion. Macrotrends, another research organization, estimates that 1.428 billion people live in India.
India has not officially released the latest population figures. Every 10 years, Bloomberg notes, the country conducts a population census, but in 2021 it did not take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. The UN predicted that India will overtake China in terms of population at the end of 2023.
