Sad news came from Georgia. Half an hour ago Georgian TV channel “Mtavari archi” announced the death of a film actor, pop singer, screenwriter and film director, songwriter Vakhtang Kikabidze.
He was born in July 1938. In 1978 he became a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR. In 1980, Kikabidze was awarded the title of People’s Artist of Georgia. Since 2020, he has been a member of the Georgian Parliament. During his career, Kikabidze played dozens of roles in Soviet and Georgian cinema. One of the most famous – Valiko Mizandari in the film by George Danelia “Mimino”, writes TASS.
Buba Kikabidze studied at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University in 1959-1965, and in 1961-1963 at the Institute of Foreign Languages. Since 1959, the artist of the Philharmonic. Since 1967 he has been a soloist of the Orera vocal and instrumental ensemble. At the international film festival “Cartakhan-70” he received a prize for the best performance of a male role in the film “Don’t Cry” (1969). Became the owner of the state award for the film “Mimino” (1978).
The heroes of Kikabidze in the cinema fell in love and were remembered by the audience. Among the most famous films are “Do not Cry!”, “Mimino”, “Melody of the Veriysky Quarter” and others.
Since 2020, Kikabidze has been a member of the Georgian Parliament of the 10th convocation on the party list, electoral bloc: “United National Movement – United Opposition “Strength in Unity”.
