Record year 2022 for table olive exports

Exports of table olives have shown a dynamic pace in recent years, which was also confirmed in 2022, which is estimated to be a record year in terms of export volume.

According to preliminary data provided by the National Interprofessional Organization of Table Olives (DOEPEL), between January and October 2022, Greek exports of table olives reached 565 million euros and 193,000 tons, while in the same period in 2021, Greek exports amounted to 456 million euro and 217,000 tons.

For 2022, the value of exports is forecast to exceed 600 million euros, while in 2021 it was 565 million euros, making it a record year.

“Greek table olives are one of the first export agricultural products of our country. It is worth noting that the commodity is almost exclusively export-oriented – almost 90% of annual domestic production is exported. The first export, 200 tons, was registered in 1858,” said the president of the Panhellenic Union of Industrialists.

Greek table olives are mainly exported to the third countries of the world (55%+), with the markets of the European Union absorbing approximately 40-45% of Greek exports. According to Mr. Zuk, “For 2022, at the country level, the United States is the number one exporting country in terms of quantity (export value is estimated at 173 million euros), while the top ten also includes: Germany (60 million euros), Italy (42 million euros), United Kingdom (31 million euros), Australia, Netherlands, Canada, France, Belgium and Poland.
