Russia: confiscation of property "scoundrels" per "discredit" Russian army

Vyacheslav Volodin, speaker of the State Duma, proposed amending the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation to confiscate the property of Russians who left the country: for inciting extremism, rehabilitating Nazism, or “discrediting” the Russian army.

In his telegram channel, the speaker said that recently the Russians “consider it possible to insult Russia, its inhabitants, soldiers and officers, openly support villains, Nazis and murderers,” and they do this in order to “curry favor and try to preserve their well-being for abroad”. He also clarified that this is the “demand of the people”:

“According to the legislation of the Russian Federation, such statements can be regarded as calls for extremism, the rehabilitation of Nazism or the discrediting of the Armed Forces. The scoundrels who have left live comfortably thanks to our country. While abroad, they rent out real estate, and continue to receive royalties from Russian citizens.”

As writes BB.LV, a member of the State Duma from United Russia, Oleg Morozov, has already assured that work is underway on measures against those who have left the country and are causing damage to it, and soon the corresponding procedure will be created. According to the parliamentarian, Volodin’s proposal “answers the request of the majority of Russian citizens”:

“A person who left the country at a difficult hour and damages it by his actions cannot enjoy the same rights as other Russian citizens. By increasing the population of Georgia, for example, he should not receive maternity capital! If he is engaged in political activities abroad, he cannot to run for deputies and vote in elections. Such citizens can and should be deprived of their rights – political, social, and property.”
