At the airport of the British capital Heathrow, during a routine check, border guards found a parcel with traces of uranium.
As informs Sky News, law enforcement officers are investigating the incident that occurred on December 29, 2022. Richard Smith, head of the investigation, said the amount of contaminated material “was extremely small and, according to experts, does not pose a threat to the public.”
According to the police, so far it is not associated with any direct threat. They specified that the discovered material was identified as contaminated with uranium. Nobody was arrested. Law enforcement officers continue to work to ensure that there is no risk to the public.
Uranium is a natural metal, but harmful to humans, it is an important nuclear element, the newspaper notes.
