Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis had a telephone conversation during which they discussed Greece’s defense support for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian president, as stated in his Facebook post, thanked the Greek prime minister for his help:
“I talked on the phone with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. I thanked for the warm wishes for the Ukrainian people and defense support this year. I received assurances of the same level of support next year. We outlined joint activities.”
During the negotiations, informs newsbomb.gr, the head of the Greek government welcomed the proposal of the European Commission to grant Ukraine candidate status, which he supports, and announced the unwavering support of Ukraine by Greece.
As writes European Pravda, Greek Defense Minister Nikolaos Panayiotopoulos, said earlier that Athens could transfer S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine if the United States deploys its Patriot air defense systems in Crete instead. Greek edition Pronews.gr quoted him:
“If the United States installs a Patriot system on the island (Crete) and after it is integrated – connected to the national air defense system, then the S-300 can be removed. The same procedure applies to any other Russian-made air defense system that they may want to send to Ukraine”.
In September, Kyriakos Mitsotakis argued that Greece did not intend to send Russian-made S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems to Ukraine because it did not want to weaken its own defense.
