Greece: the geography of tourism is expanding

Greece cordially invites foreign tourists to visit seven new islands, where they probably have not had time to visit yet.

Many European countries are now experiencing the problem of overtourism. This is a new term used to describe the negative effects of mass tourism. When too many travelers are in the same place at the same time, overtourism is said to occur. Greece has decided to avoid such problems and offers visitors to the country new places to visit – 7 islands that they do not know about or have only heard the name of. These are Kitira, Naxos, Ithaca, Karpathos, Ikaria, Samothrace, Lichadonisia.

This year, Greece has achieved a resounding success in tourism. However, the authorities were concerned about the impending overtourism in certain parts of the country – an influx of travelers who occupy all free real estate and turn the life of local residents into unbearable.

Meanwhile, in Greece, everyone can discover not only popular island resorts, but also those that are no less beautiful, but not so widely known. However, the absence of a huge crowd of people can be a significant plus and make the rest more enjoyable. Dimitris Fragakis, Secretary General of the Hellenic National Tourism Organization, says:

“We are discussing not only the conservation of natural resources or the protection of the environment. For us, sustainability is also something else.”

He said that the authorities encourage not only the geographical dispersal of vacationers, but also temporary. That is, the official encourages tourists to come to our sunny and friendly country not only in summer, but also in the rest of the year, unless, of course, these are avid “beach-goers”.

On the island of Naxos, part of the Cyclades group of islands, travelers can enjoy fertile valleys and high mountains, crystal air and an adventurous holiday. This is the largest island in the archipelago and a great place for gourmets.

One of the most isolated islands of the Ionian archipelago is Kythera. Here tho, calm and cozy. Tourism there is relatively poorly developed and cannot offer top class infrastructure. But the island generously offers something more important: virgin wildlife, natural waterfalls, luxurious scenery and complete relaxation in the bosom of nature.

No less attractive are other islands, where there is no large concentration of tourists. Lovers of peace and tranquility are waiting for a quality holiday in Ithaca, Karpathos, Ikaria, Samothrace, Lichadonisia.

As notes GreekReporter, Greece is a country offering world-class resorts. Condé Nast Traveler readers rightfully voted it the sixth best travel destination this year. Greece dominates the price list of choice as the world’s best holiday destination with a score of 89.97.
