Comparison of prices for heating with oil, natural gas and electricity


Winter temperatures in Greece may continue to be high throughout the season, but energy prices for heating homes and businesses have begun to rise.

The Ministry of the Interior announced new subsidies for electricity, and the subsidy for heating oil is also extended from the New Year, but at a lower amount per liter. In terms of electricity bills, the total subsidy doubled to 840 million euros from 435 million in December.

A. Subsidies for electricity

a/a Electricity: subsidy for households

  • Consumption up to 500 kWh
  • Subsidy: 0.33 EUR/kWh

1. Example: household with monthly consumption 400 kWh.

  • Without subsidy: 0.489 euros 400 kWh = 195.6 euros.
  • With subsidy: 0.159 euros 400 kWh = 63.6 euros.

Savings: 132 euros

Consumption from 501-1000 kWh

  • Subsidy: 0.28 EUR/kWh
  • Saving 15%: 0.05 EUR/kWh

2. Example: household with monthly consumption 700 kWh.

  • Without subsidy: 349 euros
  • With a subsidy: 128 euros

Savings (at 15%) will be: 118 euros

3. Consumption 1001 kWh and above.

  • Subsidy: 0.19 EUR/kWh.
  • Saving 15%: 0.05 EUR/kWh.

  • Up to 2000 kWh: €0.292/kWh.
  • Over 2000 kWh: 0.134 EUR/kWh.
  • Bakeries: €0.292/kWh.

B. Natural gas subsidy: €0.02/kWh.

Natural gas

  1. Consumption of 1580 thermal kilowatt-hours per month at a price of 0.11–0.12 euro/kWh.
  2. Cost: 173.8-189.60 euros.

Electricity

  1. 735 kWh per month at a price of 0.22 EUR/kWh.
  2. Cost: 161.70 euros.
