Greece: Christmas aid to the homeless arrives in the evenings

The charitable organization “APOSTOLIS” in the evenings distributes Christmas “messages of love” to the homeless in the capital, trying to at least brighten up and alleviate their situation.

This order was given by the Archbishop of Athens and All Hellas Jerome. Representatives of “APOSTOLIS” in their evening meetings talked with the homeless, asked about their needs and wished everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Holiday sets include food, sweets, water and fruit juices. Sometimes humanitarian aid, depending on the weather, circumstances and requests of those in need, also includes clothes, shoes, bedding, personal hygiene items. APOSTOLIS PR Manager Ioannis Petalas speaks, quotes newsbeast.gr:

“Over the past ten years, we have been constantly meeting with the needy, released from prison, drug addicts, economically weak people, cancer patients who are forced to “visit” on the streets, squares and passageways to find shelter to spend the night. We are with them, especially during these holidays. We listen to their problems, their worries, they put us in their world for a while. The reason for their condition is different for everyone, different stories of pain … We awkwardly look into their faces, write down on a cardboard what they need, and try, according to the order of our archbishop, Mr. Jerome, to make them feel at least for a while that they not alone, not all of them abandoned.”
