Who will get 59 extra days without paying road tax

Road tax payments for 2023 officially end on December 31st. But before the due date for the payment, an extension was announced, which some people seem to “make money” on.

Tolls can be accessed either through the gov.gr website or through the AADE app without taxis.net codes.

Road tax notices for 2023 include a QR code. This is because it is easier for owners of private cars and motorcycles to pay tolls.

Step by step procedure:

  • Fill in the VAT number, which is indicated in the certificate of registration
  • Fill in the registration number of the car, which is indicated in the registration certificate
  • Fill in the registration fee year
  • Select “Search”
  • Select “Print” when the message “Successful search” appears.

How to pay registration fees
By scanning a QR code, car owners will be able to pay their 2023 road tax amount directly through web banking and from their mobile phone.

Citizens who are not familiar with the Internet will be able to pay tolls in banks. In addition, it will be possible to pay via web banking, which will now be carried out using an RF code, for even greater convenience.

Toll 2023: who benefits from the extension
The deadline for payment of tolls is now after the announcement of the extension – not December 31, but the end of February 2023.

As officially announced by the Ministry of Finance: “Extension of the deadline for payment of tolls and voluntary immobilization of vehicles until February 28, 2023.”

By a decision signed by the Deputy Minister of Finance, Mr. Apostolos Vessiropoulos, the deadline for the payment of tolls for 2023 and the voluntary immobilization of vehicles is extended until February 28, 2023.

In a statement, Mr. Vesiropoulos said: “After a series of measures taken by the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis to make life easier for Greek taxpayers, we are extending the deadline for the payment of road tax for 2023 and the voluntary immobilization of cars by two months so that everyone has the opportunity to fulfill this obligation. “.

Thus, in accordance with the renewal decision, the winners were those who decided to submit registration plates at the end of the year. Why? They will now be able to drive their cars for two additional months in 2023, until February 28th. This means they will receive an additional 59 days in 2023 without having to pay registration fees for 2023.

If after that they continue to use their car, they will have to pay the full amount corresponding to the fees for 2023.

However, caution should be exercised in any case, as late payment of registration fees entails a penalty of 100% of the fees due for the vehicle. In other words, you will pay twice as much – with a few exceptions. See below for details on what applies.

In particular, the amount of the fine is: equal to the amount of fees if the vehicle is a two/three-wheeler or passenger car 50% of the fees if the vehicle is a passenger car, zero if the registration fee is less than 30 euros.
If the owner of the vehicle cannot pay the registration fees, he/she must immobilize the vehicle.

Platform MyCAR allows motorists to perform the following actions online:

  • Temporarily mark the vehicle as stationary so as not to pay road tax by turning in license plates to the police without visiting the tax office.
  • Download the toll road notice and get your toll road certificate.
  • Remove the immobility of the vehicle and pay the road tax monthly.

Access to myCar possible with TaxisNet tax accounting network codes.

Those who do not wish to pay the toll must “turn in” their license plates electronically through the dedicated myCar platform.

Owners with their TAXISNet codes must do the following:

If you are connected to the AAΔE single digital government portal:

  • Login to the app myCar
  • Enter Taxisnet codes
  • Enter: a) city code b) street c) house number
  • Claim a parking space (leased or registered)
  • Apply now
  • Get an application number
  • Remove the license plates from the vehicle and keep them in a safe place.

After the process is completed, the vehicle cannot be moved. Otherwise, fines of up to 30,000 euros are provided in case of a repetition of the violation. The only way to move the vehicle is temporary license plates, for which the driver must have insurance for the car. Authorities say that motorists who have re-introduced their vehicle will be subject to an online check to see if they had insurance on the vehicle at the time of application.
