The President of Russia called the special operation in Ukraine a war, in response today the United States called on Vladimir Putin to recognize the reality of the conflict and withdraw his troops.
As noted Greek edition “Kathimerini”, the State Department noted that 300 days after the start of the invasion of Ukraine, the Russian president called the conflict by a real name banned in Russia. As you know, the Kremlin officially calls Russia’s invasion of Ukraine a “special military operation.” A law has been passed that provides for harsh prison terms for publishing any information about the Russian military that is deemed “false,” and many have been convicted after calling the invasion a “war.” However, Putin used the term last Thursday, assuring that he wants the conflict in Ukraine to end “as soon as possible.” US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said:
“Since February 24, the US and the rest of the world have known that the special military operation was an unprovoked and unjustified war against Ukraine. Finally, after 300 days, Putin named the war after himself. As the next step in accepting reality, we call on him to end the war by withdrawing his troops from Ukraine. Russia’s attack on the sovereignty of a neighboring country has resulted in loss of life, destruction and population displacement, whatever terminology Putin uses.”
Meanwhile, a Russian MP from St. Petersburg, Nikita Yuferev, has announced that he is suing Putin, accusing him of “spreading false information” for using the word “war” to describe operations in Ukraine.
