WHO: About 800,000,000 people in China may become infected with coronavirus in the coming months

There is another outbreak of covid in China. The World Health Organization is concerned about the minimum information from the country and calls on the PRC authorities for closer cooperation.

Ahead of a predicted new wave of Covid-19 in China, WHO notes that too little information is coming from there. According to the organization, about 800 million people in China may become infected with the coronavirus in the coming months. WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said:

“WHO is very concerned about the situation in China due to the increased reports of serious illnesses. To fully assess the risk of the situation on the ground, we need more detailed data on the number of hospitalizations, the course of the disease and the conditions of admission of patients to intensive care units.”

It was only recently that Beijing abandoned its zero-covid policy and eased its containment measures. The number of infected people has skyrocketed, and tens of millions of older people are still not vaccinated. Mao Ning, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, says:

“We are adapting our response to COVID in a changing situation to better manage outbreaks and regulate socio-economic development. Currently, another booster vaccination is underway, there are enough drugs and tests in the country.”

Meanwhile, sales of fever-reducing drugs and headache remedies have skyrocketed across the country. The Chinese authorities are increasing the production capacity of ibuprofen and paracetamol, increasing the supply of medicines to pharmacies and medical centers.
