Thessaloniki: 29-year-old son beat and stabbed his mother

The 29-year-old son brutally beat and stabbed his 60-year-old mother at her home in the Kalamaria district of Thessaloniki on Wednesday afternoon. Neighbors said they heard voices and noise from the apartment shortly before 4 o’clock and called the police.

A shocking picture appeared before the police and ambulance rescuers: the victim was sitting in a chair, she was covered in blood, with numerous wounds on her face and body, and at first it was difficult to understand how they were inflicted.

Shortly thereafter, the police found a kitchen knife with obvious traces of blood, which, presumably, was used by the perpetrator. According to the ANT1 TV channel, the police also seized two gymnastic weights. According to information, the guy beat his mother with a knife and weights, and also struck with his hands. A bloody shirt was also found, police said. An autopsy will determine the exact cause of the victim’s death.

The guy reportedly confessed to the crime. He was arrested and taken to a psychiatric clinic on Wednesday evening by order of the prosecutor and the security guard. The Department for Crimes Against Life and Personal Liberty of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate opened a case against him on charges of manslaughter.

Parents were divorced, mother and son lived together until the last two years, when he moved to live with his girlfriend. Neighbors told the media that they were not aware that the perpetrator was suffering from psychological problems. They spoke of a “gentle young man” and of their mother as a “beautiful lady.” Their name is associated with big business in Thessaloniki clothing industry.

They also revealed that mother and son had a good relationship. She showed concern and regularly visited her son in his apartment, bringing food to the young spouses. Neighbors who heard the scandal on Wednesday afternoon said the perpetrator’s last words to his mother were “you’re done!”
