Sixteen people were killed and dozens were missing when a landslide hit a campsite with tourists in the Malaysian state of Selangor.

Around 03:00 on Friday, a landslide occurred on a farm in the village of Batang Kali, tourists at that time were sleeping in tents. There were more than 90 people at the base, including children. Hundreds of rescuers are on the scene, wading through mud, uprooted trees and debris, looking for survivors.
The landslide started on a slope more than 30m above the campsite and covered an acre of land (4046.85 sqm). According to rescuers, more than 60 people were rescued, 16 died, 17 are still missing. Te Lynn Xuan, one of the campers, said she and her mother survived, but her brother died and another brother was taken to the hospital with injuries: “We felt the tents were becoming unstable and the earth was crumbling around us. Mom and I managed to crawl out and escape.”
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his condolences to the victims and prayed for the survivors on his Facebook page. It is not yet clear what caused the landslide in a wooded hilly area near the roadside in Batang Kali, close to the Genting Highland resort region and about 50 km north of Kuala Lumpur. Local residents report that there was some rain, but there were no heavy rains or earthquakes before it. Authorities have already issued an evacuation order for all campsites on river banks and other high-risk areas for the next seven days.
