Greece: Threshold increases "golden visa"

To obtain a “Golden Visa” in Greece, the criteria are changing, in some regions its threshold is doubled.

Nikos Papathanasis, Deputy Minister of Development and Investment, said that next week the government will submit a resolution to parliament introducing a target of 500,000 euros for obtaining a residence permit under the Golden Visa program.

The thresholds for obtaining it are doubled for specific regions, this will be provided for in a legislative decree being prepared by the government. Papatanasis said that the innovation includes the introduction of a half-million threshold for Thessaloniki, Mykonos and Santorini. Regarding Attica, he noted that the eastern and western suburbs, as well as Piraeus, would be exempt from the threshold increase, while the northern and southern suburbs of Attica would be included. For other regions, the criterion of 250,000 euros will remain.

The new scheme will allow obtaining permits in expensive areas for the purchase of up to two apartments (for example, worth 250,000 euros each), but on condition that they are located in the same building.

The Deputy Minister explains that the main goal is to highlight other regions of the country where investment capital can be directed, in addition to those that have been most in demand so far. As for the timing of the implementation of the resolution, the signing of preliminary contracts for the purchase of real estate, based on the current regime, will be given until the beginning of 2023, writes CNN Greece.
