Greek Christmas kitsch to the sounds of “All I want for Christmas is you”… The migration officials themselves made Christmas balls with the image of Minister Notis Mitarakis inside.
As if this ridiculous idea wasn’t enough, they also posted the video on the ministry’s official Facebook and Youtube social media accounts.
For more than one minute in a 6-minute video, we see in detail how balloons with the image of Minister Mitarakis are collected.
They print out a photo, fill the balls with artificial snow, tie it with a ribbon, place it in the center of the frame, and hang it high on the Christmas tree. It is worth noting that there were also photographs of employees on the balloons. But that didn’t stop the social media bullshit storm. As expected, the video generated a lot of responses on social media, websites and opposition newspapers.
In the comments, Greeks are calling on Migration Minister Mitarakis to make a video of apology, and some are calling on him to pay loyalty to use the song. The video was eventually removed. But by that time it had already gone viral on the Internet.
Some speak of an “electoral campaign” and “a pathetic display of narcissism posted on the ministry’s official YouTube account.” Others wrote: “I find it a little sinister to be hanged. Even on the tree. Many people ask if all this was financed with taxpayer money. Surely it was, since the ministries always have a budget for festive events.

And a few more comments: “balloons with the image of a snow-covered minister honor refugees […]which freeze on the islets of the Evros River or stretch into the Aegean Sea.
