A married couple, Greek teachers, turned out to be members of an international drug cartel


Greek law enforcement agencies have begun to eliminate an international criminal organization that was involved in the importation of drugs from Spain to Greece, and then supplied cocaine and cannabis to the Attica regions.

The leader of the cartel was a Croat with a rich criminal past. His associate and “right hand” was a member of the Serbian paramilitary group “Scorpion”, and among the alleged drug traffickers, according to ΕΛΑΣalso two Greek teachers.

The Attica Security Drug Enforcement Administration, after using the information, in cooperation with DEA ​​Athens, arrested eleven people, including nine gang members, as part of an organized police operation. According to the data, the members of the criminal organization had a severe criminal past. It is worth noting that the police, in addition to drugs, also seized explosives. It is currently being established how they got there and what they were intended for. Allegedly, the criminal group intended to get the amount of 250,000 euros for drugs. And TNT explosives, fake IDs and weapons, which were also found in the organization’s clandestine apartment located on Alimos, took the investigation to the international level.

ΕΛΑΣ is currently working with its European counterparts to expand the investigation and establish the involvement of detainees in a wide range of crimes. Of the 11 arrested, six are foreigners, three Greeks and two Greek women. Of the five Greek citizens detained, two are married. We are talking about a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old teacher.

On the morning of 13 December, members of the Narcotics Prosecutor’s Office, the Bomb Disposal Department and the Criminal Investigation Department reportedly carried out a large-scale police operation in various parts of Attica. According to the data collected by the police authorities, the organization had a professional infrastructure and training to ensure its continuous and uninterrupted operation, and its members performed specific roles.

The 45-year-old Croatian leader was tasked with finding and supplying large quantities of drugs for trafficking, short-term rentals of a house where the drugs were hidden, and rental vehicles.

The 47-year-old Serb, who was his right-hand man, has a large number of convictions in his country for extortion and violation of laws on weapons and ammunition. In fact, he was serving a prison sentence for murders as part of the Scorpion paramilitary organization. The remaining nine members of the organization were responsible for possession, protection and drug trafficking.

During the searches conducted in the houses located in the areas of Marousi, Filothei, as well as an apartment rented through the AirBnB platform on Alimos, the following were found and confiscated:

  • 20 480 grams of cannabis,
  • 6517 grams of raw hemp,
  • 194.3 grams of cocaine
  • electronic balance,
  • 2 packages with explosives (weighing 681 grams of TNT),
  • detonator,
  • bomb making equipment,
  • pistol with two magazines and 59 rounds,
  • 10 hunting cartridges,
  • stun gun,
  • 2 cars,
  • motorbike,
  • 41 mobile phones,
  • cash in the amount of 26,215 euros,
  • 2 fake Greek IDs,
  • 3 computers and tablet
  • bulletproof vest,
  • driving license and foreign passport,
  • notebooks and documents.

The arrested, with a case initiated against them, were taken to the prosecutor’s office for criminal cases in Athens.
