Greece: Nearly 30,000 flu cases every day

Nikos Tsanakis, Professor of Pulmonology at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Crete, spoke today about highly contagious infections that are widespread in Europe at this time of the year, as well as about the prevention of viral diseases.

Speaking on the SKAI channel, Nikos Tsanakis began with the phrase “the whole of Greece is sick”, citing 20-30,000 cases of illness per day as an example. In this case, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and influenza are leading.

Pneumococcus: how is it transmitted and how does the vaccine protect us?

Among other things, Nikos Tsanakis said that there should be no complacency, as RSV also affects the elderly, pointing out that “age people, infected, have a hard time with the disease, often end up in hospitals.”

The only ally in the fight against viruses seems to be the coronavirus vaccine and, of course, the flu vaccine, which contains the “H3N2” strain that is also present in the flu, thus creating a shield of excellent (if not complete) protection, as pointed out by Professor Tzanakis.

The specialist, among other things, emphasized that in most cases, whether you become infected or not depends on the observance of personal hygiene rules. The contagiousness of the respiratory virus is particularly strong, and is transmitted through hands, surfaces and objects. Avoid crowded places and enclosed spaces (which is very important in the pre-holiday period). In addition, do not forget to sanitize your hands often.
