Putin had a telephone conversation with Scholz

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, said federal government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit. Talk confirmed also the press service of the Kremlin.

In a 90-minute conversation on the afternoon of Tuesday September 13, Scholz urged the head of the Kremlin to reach a diplomatic settlement in the war against Ukraine as soon as possible, pointing out the seriousness of the situation at the front and the consequences of the Russian invasion. At the same time, the head of the German government announced the need for a ceasefire, the complete withdrawal of Russian troops from the territory of Ukraine, as well as respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of this country. He emphasized that any further attempts by Russia to annex the territories of other countries “will not go unanswered and will not be recognized under any circumstances,” the newspaper reports. DW.

The telephone conversation also touched upon the situation around the Russian-controlled Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. The head of the German government stressed the need to ensure its safety and called for not allowing any steps that could lead to further escalation, as well as to comply with the measures recommended by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The initiator of the telephone conversations was the German side. According to TASS, in the conversation, Putin noted that the Russian army had long refrained from targeted missile attacks on some targets in Ukraine, but was forced to launch them in response to attacks by Kyiv against Russian civilian infrastructure, including the Crimean bridge and energy facilities. The attacks on the two Nord Stream gas pipelines are in the same row. It is necessary to conduct an absolutely transparent investigation with the participation of Russian representatives, the Kremlin added.

In addition, Putin and Scholz discussed the implementation of the package Istanbul deal on the export of Ukrainian grain and the unblocking of food and fertilizer exports from Russia. Moscow noted the need to conscientiously and comprehensively implement this agreement, which implies the removal of all barriers for Russian supplies as well.
