In Athens today and tomorrow, 20 leaders of the EPP and the head of the EC

For two days, Friday and Saturday, 20 leaders of the European People’s Party and the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, will stay in Athens.

The main topic of the meeting is the strategy of the European centre-right on the eve of and taking into account the important political and electoral battles of 2023-2024.

Closed 2-day meeting, writes CNN Greece, organized on the initiative of Manfred Weber and EPP General Secretary Thanasis Bakolas. It will be opened by the President of the European People’s Party and the Prime Minister of Greece. The main goal is to support each other, to unite the center-right forces before the important elections of the coming year in Greece, Spain, Poland and Finland.

According to the Athens-Macedonian news agency, this meeting in the Greek capital is not accidental. Kyriakos Mitsotakis is making proposals to the European Council and the EPP, where the European center-right seeks to maintain and increase forces in view of the battle of 2024.

The meeting in Athens will be attended by: President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola, former President of the European Council and the EPP Donald Tusk, President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, President of the Republic of Cyprus Nikos Anastasiadis, Prime Ministers of Croatia Andrej Plenkovic and Slovakia Eduard Heger, Austrian Chancellor Karl Neuhammer and Foreign Minister Affairs of Italy Antonio Tajani.

In a different setting and without the time constraints of regular EPP sessions that typically precede European councils, the Athens meeting provides an opportunity for more meaningful discussions between party leaders who also intend to discuss important European issues – economic governance, defense and security, and other.
