Metro Line 4: Alsos Weikou – Gudi in 17 minutes

Metro Line 4 is expected to dramatically improve Attica’s transport system. Residents and guests of the region will be able to move around safely and quickly every day, thanks to the expansion of the modern subway.

With the completion of the construction of the first section “Alsos Veiko – Gudi”, 340,000 passengers will use the subway daily, 53,000 cars will stop driving on the roads (which will gradually eliminate the problem of traffic jams), and the Galatsi – Gudi route will be covered in just 17 minutes. Preparatory work is underway on the first section of the 4th line, construction sites and wells have been equipped at the stations, and the first meter of rails is already being laid in Katehaki.

“Line 4 will fundamentally change the transport map of the capital,” says Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Kostas Karamanlis, who says: “With determination, we are moving forward to successfully complete a project of great importance for Athens on time.” It is expected that the project, in addition to creating new jobs, is designed to improve the state of the environment.

The first section of Line 4 “Veikos-Goudi Forest Park” was designed to serve the many densely populated areas of central Athens. Four new stations will be built in the city center (Exarchia, Akademia, Kolonaki, Evagelismos). The metro line will facilitate the unloading of the existing central metro stations, as well as provide communication with many important facilities and institutions, such as hospitals, educational institutions, etc.

Once the subway is put into operation, traffic is expected to decline as around 53,000 vehicles per day will be restricted. The new line will reduce the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 318 tons. As part of the construction program, landscaping work is envisaged that will decorate Athens.

The construction of a new metro line with a length of 12.8 km includes 15 stations:
