Food Pass: how new subsidies will be applied for

The government is considering issuing new food vouchers (Food Pass) through gov.gr for the country’s households. The amount of the subsidy, which is likely to be up to 100 euros, will cover the products of the “family basket” presented in the assortment in supermarkets.

According to information, “grocery voucher” will apply exclusively to food purchases in supermarkets, while it is possible that butchers and other food stores will also gradually join the program. You can also redeem a coupon in them.

The Food Pass will be awarded based on strict eligibility criteria, based on marital status and annual income. Priority will be given to families with children, where, depending on the number of children, there will be a corresponding increase in the subsidy. Final decisions on the food voucher will be made in early 2023.

As Adonis Georgiadis emphasized, speaking on Parapolitika FM radio: “As long as the economy is doing well, showing a surplus while meeting fiscal targets, we will find a way to help the population. Our goal is that vulnerable fellow citizens must be protected from this madness in which we live.”

Asked if the Food Pass will be given to the festive table, he stressed: “We are considering every measure that can help vulnerable citizens.”

As Deputy Minister Mr. Skilakakis pointed out, most of it – about 600 million euros – from the special reserve of 1 billion euros, budgeted to overcome the energy crisis, will return to society. Whatever resources we have, they will go directly to households in different ways, he said and elaborated: “Inflation is subject to: electricity, fuel, food. Depending on the development of events, we will direct resources in the right direction.”

So far, specific assistance is provided for fuel (gasoline) – fuel pass. The application for its receipt is submitted through applications on vouchers.gov.gr.:

1. You enter the online platform with Taxisnet codes.

2. Then the platform receives a request – you need to fill in and update your data:

• E-mail address,
• cell phone number,
• personal bank account number.

Applications for gasoline were sent to financial institutions in the morning of each working day. Assistance was credited within a few days (usually a maximum of 3-4) from the moment the beneficiary’s application was successfully received and processed by the financial institution of his choice. Thus, the application for the Food Pass voucher, as reported, can be made in a similar way. A ministerial decision is awaited.
