On the Italian island of Ischia in the Gulf of Naples, more than 10 people have gone missing, cars have been thrown into the sea, houses have been destroyed and streets are impassable.
The cause was landslides after heavy rains, according to agency AR. Not only cars, but also buses ended up in the sea, and the streets of the port city of Casamicciola became impassable. The authorities of the island appealed to the population with a request to stay at home.
The number of victims of the disaster is still unknown, searches are underway for 10-12 missing people. Matteo Salvini, Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, earlier announced the death of eight people. Later, his words were denied by the Minister of the Interior, assuring that the death of a single person has not yet been officially confirmed.
The mayor of Naples, according to the news agency ANSA, speaks of the discovery of one body on the island. ANSA also writes about the destruction of at least ten buildings. Meanwhile, the prefect of Naples reported that a family with a newborn baby was found, which was considered missing. All victims receive medical attention.

The mountainous island is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful beaches and resorts. In 2017, an earthquake hit the city of Casamicciola. Despite the relatively small magnitude – 4 points on the Richter scale – two people died then, and the city suffered significant damage.
