The multinational exercises “Niriis-22” were held from November 5 to 13 in the region of Crete and the south of the Peloponnese, with the participation of personnel of the armed forces of Greece, the United States and Israel.
The exercise also involved the Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 and the Standing NATO Mine Action Group 2, consisting of naval units from Belgium, Germany, Greece, the United States, Italy, Spain and Portugal. It was a multinational interdisciplinary exercise of the INVITEX (Invitation Exercise) type, in which observers from Egypt, Albania, Bulgaria, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and Slovenia took part.

From the Greek Armed Forces, 4 helicopter frigates, 3 submarines, 4 fast patrol ships, 2 general support ships, 3 minesweepers, a tanker, support vessels, GEETHA Special Warfare Command maritime forces, F-4 and F- fighters participated in the exercise. 16 Air Force, and a Greek Coast Guard patrol boat.
Niriis-22 also included a frigate from Spain, a destroyer, an S-70 helicopter and a US naval operations aircraft, three SNMCMG 2 minesweepers from Belgium, Italy and Spain, a general support ship from Germany, a Coast Guard patrol boat from Portugal, and also two fast patrol boats with guided missiles from Israel.
During the exercises, trainings were held in all types of naval battles. The main emphasis was placed on mine action, artillery firing, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, air warfare and force protection exercises, amphibious operations, combating asymmetric surface and air threats, protecting critical infrastructure, naval deterrence and civilian evacuation.
