beware "black" realtors

Complaints to the Association of Realtors on civil contracts for the sale of real estate in the Athens-Attica region are growing. False realtors have entered the market, who not only do not have the right to engage in relevant activities, but also jeopardize the legality of any transaction.

Wishing to protect potential buyers, tenants and landlords, the association is sounding the alarm about illegal dealers. The association gave some recommendations, talked about how to act step by step and determine whether you are dealing with a real realtor or a scammer. At best, an unscrupulous person will work unprofessionally, and at worst, this can lead to the loss of even a large amount of money.

So, in addition to the VAT number, a professional (certified) realtor also has a Γ.Ε.ΜΗ number. (Γενικό Εμπορικό Μητρώο), which you must check before starting to cooperate with this specialist. From the very beginning, when signing documents, the realtor (if, of course, he is absolutely legally engaged in activities) must put his seal on which the TIN and Γ.Ε.ΜΗ are indicated. In addition, thousands of real estate agents who are members of ΣΜΑΣΑΑ have an association ID card, which proves that they are legal representatives. However, ID is NOT mandatory, unlike the other two elements (ID numbers) mentioned above.

In the event that citizens have doubts about whether the person they have chosen as an agent is legal and real, they can also contact the Realtors Association for further instructions.
