“Basket for the poor” has become … a “basket for the rich”: products have risen in price by 15%

The consumer basket or, as it is known in Greece, the “poor man’s basket”, which comes into force on November 2, is becoming the “rich man’s basket”, as a few days ago, suppliers of goods urgently raised prices by an average of 15%, as evidenced by wholesale tariffs for basic goods for October-November.

It should be emphasized here that this is a 15% surcharge on prices already raised earlier! And all this despite the fact that in the world the prices for gas and oil have dropped significantly, which makes these increases not only unjustified, but also purely speculative for some products.

In fact, the “poor man’s basket” turns out to be another government communication ploy aimed at lulling people’s vigilance so that they do not understand what big troubles it leads them to.

In at least 15 categories of food and personal care products, the increase relates to supplier tariffs and is expected to put pressure on final consumer prices in the near future, according to a survey conducted by the newspaper Ναυτεμπορική. That is, they coincide with the implementation of the basket, which will definitely include some of these products.

It is significant that prices in wholesale catalogs for October-November for milk range from 5 to 15%, for feta an increase of 8%, for pasta – 7%, for legumes – 5%, for yeast – 7%, for olive oil – 7%. .5%, for vinegar – 7%, juices and soft drinks – from 3 to 7%, sausage and freezing – from 10 to 12%, frozen vegetables – 8%, personal care products such as shampoo, shower gel and deodorants – from 3 to 13%, detergents – from 7 to 13%, and disinfectants are expected to increase in price by about 3%.

All of the above products have been repriced at least three times during 2022! This means that for many products we have an increase of 30% (at least), which is not justified by current market conditions.
