Repair-Rent program: who can receive a subsidy of up to 10,000 euros

A significant increase in rents, the high cost of housing and thousands of closed unrenovated apartments forced the Greek authorities to think about a pressing problem.

In Greece today, the average citizen spends 37% of their income on housing (average for EU 20%), while according to AAE official data, there are more than 770,000 closed houses (apartments) throughout the country, with 200,000 of them located in Athens and Thessaloniki. At the same time, rents in Attica, Thessaloniki and the region continue to rise.

A few days ago, Minister of Labor Kostis Hatzidakis submitted a bill to the Cabinet of Ministers regarding legal issues so that from the beginning of 2023 a social housing strategy program called “Σπίτι μου” is formed and implemented. Who is eligible for the subsidy program up to 10,000 euros?

One of the aspects of the strategic plan “My Home” is the new program “Renovation-Rent” (“Ανακαινίζω – Ενοικιάζω”). Program provides for subsidizing homeowners to carry out repair and restoration work in empty houses. A necessary condition is the transfer of these residential premises for rent, for a period of at least 3 years.

The program implemented by ΔΥΠΑ involves owners of houses up to 100 sq.m. in urban centers that have at least 50% of the right of use or full ownership of the residence, and with family taxable income up to 40,000 euros and real estate up to 300,000 euros.

The property must be declared vacant in E2 of the most recent tax year. It also clarifies that each beneficiary can only apply for one residence, while those who have joined the “Εξοικονομώ” program are not eligible.

The subsidy relates to housing reconstruction/repair costs, confirmed by relevant invoices, and reaches up to 40% of the costs, but not more than 10,000 euros.
