November 2 premiere "consumer basket"its content will change every Wednesday

On November 2, the implementation of the program of assistance to the population during the period of inflation – “Consumer Basket” – will be announced. For seven days it will contain only products, the list of which will change every Wednesday.

Basic commodities such as bread, cheese, milk, cooking oil, diapers, baby food, cleaning products and personal care items are among the product categories for which the mark-up will be minimal. Inflation has reached its limit in Greek households and the government has recently decided to take certain measures to support the population of the country.

This was announced this morning on the channel open Deputy Minister of Development and Investment Nikos Papathanasis, stressing that the ministry accepts, in addition to the mandatory application of the basket for large supermarket chains (about 15-17 in total), that smaller stores will also take part. “We assume that there is a separate “basket”presented by any other small retail chain, which will simply have to adhere to it,” the deputy minister said, adding that the checks will be continuous. At the same time, violators face a fine of 5,000 euros per day.

Mr. Papathanasis noted that there is no restriction on whether the products each company puts in the basket will be branded or private labels, “the goal is to keep prices down.”

Recall that some time ago the government published a complete list of 50 essential products that will make up the “housewife’s basket”. It included, in addition to products, hygiene products, animal feed and more.

31 product categories (50 products) will make up the so-called “housewife’s basket” (“Καλάθι της νοικοκυράς”). The state will strive to ensure that the prices of specific goods do not rise at all or very little.

In fact, price tags for 50 items of goods will be placed daily in supermarkets. They will be specially marked, and the consumer will also be able to receive information through an electronic application that is updated every day.

The measure will affect chain stores with a turnover of more than 70 million euros.
