What the victory of the Republicans in the midterm elections means for the war in Ukraine

The US midterm elections on November 8 will be critical to the development of the war in Ukraine. In the event of a Republican victory, support for Ukraine could be terminated or significantly reduced, and the risk of a nuclear conflict would become a thing of the past.

The Republicans are expected to win, and already now their most right wing (close to former US President Trump) is seeking to reduce economic and military assistance to Kyiv, since the price paid by the American public and the West as a whole is incommensurable, while the planet lives in fear even of a nuclear conflict between the US and Russia.

Also, if Biden is defeated in the midterms, it will be for these two reasons: for inflation, that undermines the income of Americans, and for the fear of nuclear warthat pervades much of American society.

US President Joe Biden yesterday (20/10) expressed his concern about US military assistance to Ukraine in the event that the Republicans gain control of Congress – in full or in one of the two houses (House of Representatives or Senate) – in the November 8 midterm elections. “I’m worried,” Biden told reporters in Pittsburgh when asked about how a potential Republican victory would affect continued US aid to Ukraine.

Biden visited Pittsburgh to support the campaign of Democratic Senate candidate John Fetterman, who is fighting Republican Mehmet Oz. A few days ago, House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy said he would not be “prepared to sign a clean check” for aid to Ukraine if Republicans wrest control of the House from Democrats after the midterm elections.

Republicans are divided between those who see containment of Russia as a necessity and those who prefer isolationism to interventionism in matters of foreign policy. But the wing that dominates the party and secures its victories in the presidential and midterm elections is Donald Trump’s “alt-right” wing. “The path to victory is always provided by them, because the DNA of the Republicans is right.

“The Democrat spending frenzy really doesn’t stop. We need Biden to understand that we are the US and not a bank machine,” Republican Congresswoman Lauren Bobert tweeted. This is the first sign of what lies ahead for the Biden administration if US parliamentary support for arms funding for Ukraine, which has so far been taken for granted, is called into question.

In fact, this is the first significant “breakthrough” in US policy on the issue of Ukraine.

Since the beginning of Russia’s intervention in Ukraine on February 24, the White House has provided Kyiv with $17.6 billion in military aid, with a bipartisan consensus in Congress, though parts of the Republican right wing opposed it. Some analysts say Mr. McCarthy’s statements yesterday were made with the connivance of the right wing of the Grand Old Party, whose support he needs to be elected Speaker of the House of Representatives.

In principle, the Republicans understood two main reasonson which the Democrats will be defeated in the midterm elections. The first is economic because inflation has impoverished Americans, and the poverty they experience is unprecedented by American standards. Americans blame the Biden administration for this, not the Russians and Putin, as the Western media would like to say.

The second reason, perhaps even more important: Americans are starting to feel again anxiety about nuclear warthat they experienced during the Cold War. Listening mainly to their survival instincts and not believing the stupid analyzes of the so-called analysts presented to reassure Western societies that in the event of a nuclear war, the Americans will win, they feel that this will not happen, and in the event of a nuclear apocalypse, life on our planet will destroyed.

In general, the political stupidity of Western governments has reached its limit, and at the moment the stakes of a nuclear catastrophe are much more important than even the global economic crisis caused by the policies of Joe Biden. Too many American citizens have realized that the Biden administration is leading their country and the entire planet into direct nuclear conflict with Russia and China.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was pitched by Democrats in the 2020 election as “the next best thing” for the next few decades in politics, so the criticism she received is especially important because Democratic voters believed her. . As voters are quoting the now-former “congressman’s wife,” all this will be pointless if a nuclear war breaks out. In short, even these Democratic voters will vote Republican to achieve just that. Peace with Russia. Republicans know that if they win the election, it will only be because the American public will let them know that they do not want a direct confrontation with the Russian nuclear power and want the US not to interfere in the Ukraine conflict.

Of course, the world is accustomed to the fact that it is one thing when the people vote, and another when they elect after they leave the polling stations. But in this case, after the midterm elections, two years later, the election of the President of the United States follows. This means that if Republicans want to see the presidency again, they will have to follow what their voters demand of him. And they ask for prosperity, free markets and security.

A permanent and permanent confrontation with a nuclear Russia cannot provide the security that the American people want, and certainly will not help fight inflation and restore a free market.
