A student from Crete became a world champion

Third-grade student Likyo (Γ’ Λυκείου) from Heraklion (Crete) became the world champion in kickboxing.

Happy Gerald, who took the highest step on the world podium in the youth category in kickboxing, proudly says: “Greece gave birth to me. I am Greek.” He lives in the Poros area and, according to the coaches, has a high potential in the field of martial arts and combat sports. As tells Neakriti.gr, He describes his sports career as follows:

“I started doing martial arts at a young age. I started doing Greco-Roman wrestling. I have done taekwondo and in recent years have been kickboxing. Personally, I want to stay at the same level after the World Cup. I want to achieve more. I have high goals and I believe in myself. In the last weeks before going to the World Championships, I trained for 13-14 hours to be as ready as possible.

Describing the moment of winning the world championship, the young man says:

“At first I didn’t believe it. It was a success that came from heaven, in the sense that at first I did not expect that I had achieved something so important. I feel justified in my efforts. I remember talking to my father who followed me online. The father screamed with joy. Even the neighbors heard it when I became the first. My family and coach are my support.”

The athlete emphasized that he was proud to be the first under the Greek national flag. His parents are of Albanian origin, but he himself is Greek:

“Greece gave birth to me. I am Greek. I have always had Greek coaches. I went to a Greek school. Greece is my family and my home. That’s where I’m from. I am happy and excited to have reached such a high level in combat sports.”

Speaking about recipes for success and giving advice to young athletes, Gerald says:

“The secret is to listen to the coach. Don’t worry and believe in yourself. I know how to deal with my anxiety, and at the same time, I believe in my physical and mental strength.”

Throughout 2022, Gerald Geka achieved amazing records, becoming the champion of Greece in kickboxing, the champion of Europe in taekwondo. His resume is amazing. He studies in the 3rd lykyo. This year he will take exams for admission to a higher educational institution. When asked if he would limit sports if he entered, the young man replied: “No, I will not leave either martial arts or martial arts. I want to pass the exams to enter either Πυροσβεστική Ακαδημία or Γυμναστική Ακαδημία.”
