Police used tear gas and batons to disperse a protest rally against rapists and pedophiles

Angry protesters painted offensive slogans and paint on the front of a shop of a 53-year-old pedophile and pimp for a 12-year-old girl, and set fire to his service van in the Athens district of Sepolia during a rally on Saturday.

According to the organizers, minor skirmishes later broke out with the MAT police unit, which used tear gas and stun grenades.

Hundreds of people came out to rally demanding justice for the heinous and repeated crime against a minor victim, they also demanded an end to indifference to other vulnerable children.

“No tolerance for rapists”, “you have money, we have a voice, there is no hiding every rapist”, “we are with migrant women, we are together, we are against the actions of cops and the Nazis,” chanted the demonstrators who responded to the calls of feminist collectives, student associations, organizations of the extra-parliamentary left and anti-authoritarian space.

“The neighborhood must become a place of solidarity” and “No tolerance for the system and authority that breeds and covers rapists and pimps” was written on the posters, and one of them also read “Police are rapists”, which is a reference to the disgusting message about group rape of a 19-year-old girl by police officers at the Omonia police station.

According to the opposition Efsin (editors’ newspaper), the police provoked the protesters into a clash. It is possible that the police (as well as the demonstrators) were angered by the reminder of the shameful incident at the Omonia police station, where a 19-year-old girl was raped by police two days ago.

According to the People’s Assembly of the Kolonos – Platon Academy – Sepolia district, the police provoked “with insults and sexist comments about the women of the demonstration, such as “we will fuck you …. we will take you to Omonia Square to have a good time””.

Representatives of the “People’s Assembly” also emphasize that they attacked and beat “mainly women, but also other demonstrators”, threw chemicals and stun grenades at people who tried to leave by metro.

Recall that the police, for their part, said that its employees “limited use” of chemicals after several people damaged the 53-year-old rapist’s commercial van and threw objects in their direction as they drove away.

The case shocked Greek society and the revelations are still frightening as the child was raped by at least 11 men. Authorities are investigating whether 53-year-old pimp H.M. and other minors.

Meanwhile, the number of arrests reached fiveincluding the arrest of the child’s mother, and Citizens’ Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos said on Sunday more arrests would follow.

Ilias Mihos and Yiannis Sofianidis were the first to be arrested and placed in custody after giving evidence to the judicial authorities. In addition, on Friday and Saturday, 33-year-old and 36-year-old men were detained. According to the police statement, they had sex with the victim for a fee.

On Sunday at noon, the media reported that a 36-year-old administrative employee of the Metaxas Hospital in Athens was suspended from work by order of the Minister of Health, Thanos Plevris, and the procedures for his dismissal have already begun.

Two other men, a Greek man and one man from Kazakhstan, voluntarily contacted the police, admitting that they had communicated with the girl through a chat site, but stated that they had not met her.

The media reported that the police identified more men who were interested in having sex with a girl through a website where Ilias Mihos posted photos and videos of the victim. At least 213 people reportedly expressed interest through posts on this particular site. Police are investigating whether the pimp used other means to arrange a sexual encounter between the girl and potential clients.

The opposition media in Greece believe that this situation is extremely annoying to the leadership of the ruling New Democracy, since the people involved in the scandal were members of this party, so the police were given orders to be “harder”.
