When the metro opens in Piraeus, what will the new stations look like

The commissioning of the three Piraeus stations is a matter of a few days. The project has entered its final phase.

Before the opening of the last three stations regarding the extension of line 3 (blue) of the metro to Piraeus, only the “finishing touches” remain.

The metro project in a major port in Greece is now in its final stages of implementation and trial routes are already underway. The work of the three stations – Maniatika, Piraeus, Municipal Theater – will begin in the coming days, according to the Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Georgios Karagiannis, in an interview with ERT1.

Also, Kostas Karamanlis, Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, noted in his Facebook post: “We connect the largest port with the largest airport in the country and turn Piraeus into the most modern transportation hub in Greece.” In addition, he added that public spaces that were closed during construction work will soon be “returned to the city.”

Three photographs have been published (aerial view) showing the locations of the Piraeus metro stations.

Recall that the extension metro line 3 “Agia Marina Piraeus” includes a 7.6 km tunnel and six new modern stations (Agia Varvara, Korydallos, Nicaea, Maniatika, Piraeus and the Municipal Theatre) as well as seven intermediate tunnels.

The first three stations were commissioned on July 6, and in the following days, Maniatika, Piraeus and Municipal Theater stations will open for the citizens and guests of the capital.

It is expected that due to the opening of a new metro line, the total passenger flow will increase to 132,000 people per day, which will lead to a reduction in ground vehicle traffic (by approximately 23,000 per day). And carbon dioxide emissions will be reduced by 120 tons per day. Also now total travel time from port to airport will be approximately 50 minutes.
