The American resolution presented by the USA and signed by … Albania (!) to the UN Security Council, in which they called for the condemnation of the “annexation”, as they say, of Ukrainian territories by Russia, was rejected.
Not only Russia vetoedbut also the major powers, which are home to half of the world’s population, China and India supported Russia!
They abstained (along with the small African state of Gabon, which is now on the UN Security Council), and perin addition to the United States, France, Great Britain and three other small countries voted.
A diplomatic defeat for the United States was expected, but for Russia, it was more importantly supported by China and India, two historical enemies that “fastened” their alliance within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and BRICS.
The text, drawn up before the signing of documents on the entry of four regions of Ukraine into Russia, condemns “illegal referendums” that “cannot be used as a basis for changing the status of these regions” or for their “false annexation” to Russia.
The US also urged Moscow to “immediately cease” hostilities in Ukraine and withdraw “completely and unconditionally all of its armed forces” from the country.
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinkin, clearly concerned about the developments, said: “If Russia interferes with the Security Council in fulfilling its duties, we will ask the General Assembly, where each country has one vote, to clearly state that unacceptable borders are being forcibly redrawn,” as if Suriname, Puerto – Rico or New Zealand have some importance in the international political arena…
