7% increase in pensions and another increase in the minimum wage

The increase in pensions will reach 7% from 2023, while a third increase in the minimum wage is expected, as Finance Minister Christos Staikouras announced on Saturday morning October 1, among other things.

In particular, Mr. Staikouras, speaking on the SKAI channel on Saturday morning, said that the increase in pensions concerns 1.5 million pensioners, and the increase in the minimum wage will take place from May 2023.

He then stressed that another 1 million pensioners would “benefit” (and see an increase in the amount) from the elimination of the emergency levy. “Total spending on pension increases will reach 1.1 billion euros. Pensions will be increased regularly starting from 2023,” he said.

Referring to data on the issuance of an emergency allowance in the amount of 250 euros, the minister reiterated that it will be issued in December to low-income pensioners, the disabled and the long-term unemployed.

At the end of the conversation, referring to the topic of the energy crisis, Mr. Staikouras said that the government will be able to subsidize the beneficiaries until August 2023.
