Lamia: 5-year-old child suffered from a dog that was recently a pet

In broad daylight, on St. Athanasius Square in Galaneika (Lamia), a dog bit a five-year-old child who was next to his parents.

His mother did not believe her son at first when he complained about the animal bite. But when she lifted his T-shirt, she found teeth marks. The incident occurred just hours after a 35-year-old woman was attacked by a dog on her way to work in Lamia.

The family of the injured baby came to the square to rest in the restaurant, it was 19:30. Suddenly, the child shouted to his mother that he was bitten by a dog that hid between the chairs, says lamiareport.gr. The woman says:

“At first I was confused, because I did not hear any barking or any other noise that could justify what I heard from the baby. But when I lifted his shirt, I saw that the child had been bitten at chest level.”

The parents immediately treated the child’s wound and reported to the police, and the dog continued to be at the scene, as if nothing had happened. A store employee said that a few days ago she also attacked a child, but he escaped with a bite on his shirt and was not injured.

An AT Lamia patrol car arrived at the scene and, after a preliminary investigation, notified the municipality as the dog was described as stray. According to LamiaReport, a man from the municipality tried to pick her up twice, but the dog showed aggressive behavior. Panagiotis Stasinos, Deputy Mayor, says:

“This dog was recently abandoned, it has a chip, but it is not registered in the ministry’s database. The vet or whoever gave him the chip didn’t declare it. This is common, especially in hounds. Ultimately, the law must be followed. The veterinarian is obliged to declare it in the database, and its owner is obliged to declare it to the municipality electronically.”

The mother of the child intends to go to court, filing a lawsuit against all those responsible for the adventures of their child. The baby, fortunately, is in good health, as determined by the doctors of the hospital in Lamia.

Mr. Stasinos notes that after a criminal case has been initiated, the police can use the chip number to find the person who placed it and the owner of the dog, who should take on the duties provided for in such a case.
