97.7% coronavirus death rate outside of intensive care units

The study by Associate Professor of the Department of Public Health Theodoros Lytras, on the high mortality rate among intubated patients with covid outside intensive care units, caused outrage, primarily in society.

Health Minister Thanos Pleuris could not resist commenting as a study found that 97.7% of those intubated outside of the intensive care unit had died.

As a true Greek minister of a conservative government that did not do what it could and should have done to save lives, Pleuris chose to highlight the fact that a very large proportion of those who became seriously ill and died from Covid-19 were unvaccinated.

“All the studies are good and welcome. They are useful. The Litras report, which talks about the need to study mortality, leads to the conclusion that those who became seriously ill – we got these results in terms of mortality – were mainly people who, to a large extent were not vaccinated,” Plevris said in an interview with the parliamentary committee on social issues.

The committee discussed a number of measures taken in the midst of the pandemic, which are being expanded by a bill from the Ministry of Health, which will be put to a plenary vote on Thursday. The committee discussion was dominated by the Litras report, with opposition parties blaming the government for the deaths of patients who were not admitted to intensive care units.

Speaking also to members of the media, Pleuris argued that patients in intensive care units died due to hospital infections. According to Minister Pleuris, the statistical data of the study, according to which 97% of intubated patients ended up outside the intensive care unit, are known to everyone. He added that “when someone gets to the point where they need to be intubated, the chances of dying are much higher than surviving.”

It should be noted that Litras’ study concluded that almost all 1084 patients (97.7%) outside the intensive care unit died, compared with 9382 patientshospitalized in the intensive care unit, of which 72.7% died.

In addition, the Minister of Health made a “logical comment” and chose the tactic of “blaming others”, stating that the death rate in Greek intensive care units over the past twenty years is much higher for all diseases, because in our country the rate of hospital infections is twice as high. in these departments than in other European countries.”

Speaking in parliament, the minister also blamed the high mortality rate on the main opposition to SYRIZA, saying that they were opposed to vaccination.

The fact is that whatever study comes out pointing to the policy failures of the Department of Health, Thanos Pleuris will blame irrelevant factors, but never himself, never the lack of intensive care units even during the peak of the pandemic, as he is committed a sharp reduction in health care costs for the inhabitants of the country (he will not apply this to himself personally.
