How the main streets of Athens are changing: a project worth 36.9 million euros

One step away from completion is a major project in the Attica region, which concerns the replacement of all obsolete lighting fixtures with modern LED lamps with minimal energy consumption.

According to the authorities of the Attica region, the project is at the completion stage, as 85% of the old lighting on the central roads has been replaced. According to the schedule, energy-intensive lighting fixtures will be replaced, among other things, on the peripheral highway network of Athens – Corinth, Athens – Lamia, etc. by the end of the year.

It is worth noting that the project is part of the strategic planning of the region of Attica for the aesthetic, environmental and road modernization of the metropolitan infrastructure and concerns the installation of 23,790 LED lamps with a total budget of 36.9 million euros, with financial support under the regional operational program Attica for 2014-2021.

Given that new lighting devices are controlled remotely and even with the ability to adjust the energy consumption (dimming), it is assumed that energy savings of 70% will be achieved.
