Weather in Greece: rising temperatures, dust from the Sahara

Although the first week of autumn showed a drop in temperatures, the weather again showed that its forecasts weren’t too far off the mark. The direction of the wind has changed, and hot weather is returning again, and even with African dust.

As on Saturday, September 10, on Sunday, September 11, 2022, hot and humid weather with high dust content is expected, which came to Greece with strong southerly winds. In Central Greece, the temperature rose by 3-4 degrees, in the south of the central part, east of the Peloponnese and western Crete – by 4-6°C.

According to the forecast weather services, on Sunday the maximum temperature in some places will reach 35-36 degrees Celsius. The areas where the heat will be most noticeable are in Thessaly, Central Greece, the Peloponnese and western Crete.

At the same time, dust transport from Africa, which began on Friday, September 9, will intensify, affecting the western regions of the country and spreading throughout the country for the next few days.
