NATO removes from social networks its congratulations to Turkey on the victory over Greece

NATO Ground Forces Headquarters (LANDCOM) removed Turkey’s congratulations on the day of victory over Greece in Asia Minor in 1922 from their social media accounts after protests from Athens, informs Athens news agency AMNA.
Turkey is celebrating this year the 100th anniversary of the victory over the Greek army in the battle of Dumlupınar, which became a turning point in the war. For Greece, this victory turned into an Asia Minor catastrophe, massacre in Smyrna and the mass exodus of Greeks from Asia Minor.
Headquarters of the NATO ground forces, located in Turkish Izmir, August 30 wrote on his Twitter account: “Today is 100 years of Turkish independence. We join our Turkish allies in NATO and beyond in celebrating their victory and Turkish Armed Forces Day.”
As reported Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Greece, the Permanent Representative of Greece to NATO expressed a strong protest to the Secretary General of the alliance, stressing that such congratulations were not only inappropriate, but also unacceptable. The Greek military in NATO will make a similar presentation at the Supreme Headquarters of NATO (SHAPE), which includes the headquarters of the ground forces, the Foreign Ministry said.
