The power outage occurred in the Sporades Islands from 7:30 am on Thursday after heavy rain overnight. Electricity problems arose due to damage to a large substation on the island of Skiathos, where the underwater electrical cable ends.
According to local media skiathoslife.gr , these are large parts of the three islands of the northern Sporades. Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos affected by the power outage.
The damage occurred in a new network that provides the islands with electricity from a substation in Evia.
Teams of the Electricity Distribution Grid Operator (DEDIEE) are trying to find the fault and possibly provide power from the Public Power Corporation (PPC) substation in Lafkos in the Pelion area, as has happened in the past, reports cnngreece .
Speaking to state broadcaster ERT, Skopelos Mayor Stamatis Perissis said the Sporades Islands are currently full of tourists, adding that he hopes a solution will be found soon so that no one is hurt and the tourist season ends smoothly.
According to the latest information, shortly after 10 a.m., the DEDIEE teams managed to gradually supply the islands with electricity through the old network until the damage was repaired.
