Another 1.8 million euros allocated for the settlement of migrants and refugees

At the initiative of the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum, the municipalities of Alexandria, Western Lesbos, Ioannina and Leros will receive a budget of 1.87 million euros “for the needs of the authorities to manage the migrant crisis.” New resources come from the Solidarity Fund.

In particular, 340,000 euros were allocated from the Ministry of Immigration and Asylum to the municipality of Alexandria for the purchase of a garbage truck with a capacity of at least 22 sq.m. and 410 waste bins with a capacity of 1,100 liters each to meet the increased cleaning needs of refugee and migrant hospitality structures.

The Municipality of Western Lesvos will receive 600,000 euros to upgrade sports facilities (basketball courts) and the Municipality of Leros will receive 900,000 euros to connect the refugee camp to a biological treatment (sewage) system. At the same time, the municipality of Ioannita has been allocated 33,000 euros to equip parks and playgrounds in the village of Katsika.

It is noted that to date, in total, 78,921,801 euros have been allocated from the state and local budgets, of which 24,410,551 euros are municipal fees, 12,410,776 euros in the form of emergency subsidies and 42,100,474 euros have been allocated to municipalities for use in development projects.
