Four people made purchases with counterfeit banknotes in Pieria. During the detention, 2 more counterfeit banknotes of 500 euros and 48 counterfeit banknotes of 100 euros were found.
According to the police, on the evening of August 16, 2022, in the coastal area of Pieria, two of the detainees made a purchase of small goods in 5 stores, paying with counterfeit banknotes of 100 euros.
Their actions were noticed by the victims and called the police. Citizens were immediately detained by patrolmen, and the products they seized and the corresponding sums of money were returned to the owners of the shops.
Two of their accomplices tried to escape by taxi, but were spotted by members of the Crime Prevention and Suppression Department and also arrested. The taxi in which they were traveling was found and confiscated counterfeit 100 euro banknotes, carefully hidden under the car mat.
The car of the detainees was also found, during the search of which counterfeit banknotes of 500 and 100 euros were found hidden in the luggage compartment. In addition, 4 mobile phones and an amount of 2281 euros were confiscated from them.
The preliminary investigation is conducted by Katerini’s sub-department. The investigation revealed another person involved in the case – their accomplice from local residents. The arrested were taken to the District Attorney Katerini.
